Mid-Finale Vendettas Rankings

Mid-Finale Vendettas Rankings

I had to do it. Another write up. Don’t expect a summary this time, just some opinions.

First - can we all agree that the finales are getting weaker, and weaker, and weaker? As a whole, the show was interesting. We had restraining orders, Tony Time, Mercenaries (for better or worse), little pink notes, a long-running plot to eliminate the GOAT, and a lot more. But where are the finals where our guys are staying overnight, sometimes two, hiking to frozen mountain peaks, jumping in water surrounded by ice, high-altitude, long-distance runs, drinking cold blood and eating brains, etc. Instead, they run 100-yards back and forth and move torches, run in armor and then finish with a puzzle? How is that grinding? And if it is, the edit did no justice.

From the get-go, we get TJ introducing the final Mercenaries, and hell yes! Tony acting like King Shit will finally pay off with a showdown with Bananas...a blood, sweat and tears wrestling match or figure 8 fight or something! And Kam and Melissa get a chance to go at it! Will Bananas just let Leroy pass? No physical contact whatsoever? I can’t WAIT to see how this plays out! I mean right!? What could possibly go wrong!?

And so then we see our finalists, with the new knowledge that half (four of the eight) will not make the final phase, line up ready to run. We see a field with buckets of torches and an opportunity to steal and make it harder on an opponent. Cara Maria doesn’t fail to do exactly the thing that pisses me off about Cara Maria. This is a finale. There is a LOT of money to be had, and Cara is admittedly the biggest female threat in the game. She cross-fits, she is ripped, she is a vet. And yet, she cannot fathom why anyone would ever do anything to try and knock her down a peg. The other girls grab torches from Cara’s bucket, and she doesn’t waste any time confronting them and proclaiming “THAT’S NOT FAIR!” Cara, sweetie, this game isn’t fair. And you haven’t even felt the brunt of it. You’ve had grenades tossed at you by Kam that were, by bad game design, completely wasted, but beyond that, you’ve seen little legitimate concern. You failed miserably (along with your teammates) at the water challenge and stood there like a 3-year-old with your arms crossed pouting that it wasn’t fair that you be sent to the Inquisition. I respect Cara’s game - I really do - but she needs to understand other women see her as a threat, and the goal is to eliminate your threat.

Moving on, Nicole hurts her ankle and while I’m not going pretend I know the severity, it seems as though maybe there was a chance to fight through it. Hey, maybe not. I’m not a Nicole hater, I wanted her to do well. She bows out and now, as a female, you only need to beat one person to make final four. This opens the gate for the Kailah, an all-around underperformer.

According to the Challenge map, Kailah leaves this checkpoint well behind Cara and Kam. She’s already getting down on herself.

We then see the boys arrive in the dungeon...Kyle and Zach first. And we get to see this knock down, drag out fight with Johnny Bananas! He explains it is a game of high/low. Best of three. If you win, you move on with no consequence. If Bananas wins, he gets to pick from three grenades; a wrestling match, a fist-fight, or a to the death...wait, just kidding. It was jumping jacks or burying a log. Yeah, burying a log. That was the WORST one. And while the one person that had to perform this penalty ultimately lost her spot because of it - it was the ultimate letdown. We’ve been waiting a week since the preview. Holy. Shit. Bananas is back! Nicole saying “I would hate to be Tony right now!” If only they knew. All Tony had to do was guess higher or lower against a 2 or King or whatever ended up popping up. Hey mtv, how about loading the deck? Jesus fucking Christ. Every card that came up was literally a 2 or a Q or K. Absolutely no drama here. And why not just have Johnny and Melissa on a 75” television FaceTimed in? That would have been just as interesting and epic as them standing behind a fucking card table flipping card. There was NO OUTCOME in which any competitor would have to touch Bananas. Ultimate. Letdown.

It would, however, play a massive hand in how this thing ended. According to the Challenge map, as I said, Kailah was well behind Cara and Kam. Once the challengers left the card game, they had to thrown on armor and run the rest of the way - but before running they had to complete any grenade they received. Kam was the only one to receive this penalty, which allowed Kailah to not only catch Kam, but pass her as she was stuck digging a hole large enough for the tree stump while wearing armor. While I’m sure producers were hoping for more grenades, we got all of one and allowed and underachiever pass the rookie of the year. That said, Kailah seems to be one of MTV’s it girls, so maybe this was what they wanted.

It’s little surprise at this point that Kyle (!!!) and Zach finish first and second, respectively, and Cara and Kailah round out the top four. Their next challenge, I’m not kidding, is to run in a castle and complete a color memory puzzle. We also find out that there will be one winner, who will receive their bank account as well as $370,000. Pretty god damned amazing. For that kind of money, one might think you would have to fight tooth and nail with Bananas it Melissa, or have to stand on a stump for 12 hours in the middle of the night, or drink the blood of an animal from a horn.

We don’t know for sure that this is the end of the line, and we are told there is a TWO PART FINALE. Of what!? After show drama? I sincerely hope next week delivers more of  the final than what has been alluded to...but for some reason I don’t think we will get much more than a little puzzle-doin.

Odds to Win Vendettas halfway through the finale:
