The Challenge: Vendettas - Post-Bananas Rankings

Ladies and gentlemen: It has happened. Something I think most of us doubted would actually come to fruition. We left last week with Devin getting the extra vote over Bananas to be sent straight to elimination. We also saw Devin pleading his case to have his Vendetta, GOAT Johnny Bananas, sent in for a one-on-one slugfest to see who goes home and who stays. There were a couple of problems with Devin’s plan, however. First, the last handful of people to call Bananas out (Jordan & Cory, lookin' at you) have been sent home packing with their tail between their legs. And those two men are, in different ways, much more physically threatening than smooth-talker Devin, despite his attempt to tone up before this season. Despite it's comedy, Devin's plea to have a physical battle with Bananas seemed like a classic watch-what-you-wish-for in the making. Second, there was little to no chance for Bananas to ever have to meet Devin this week - with two of three votes needed to send him in, we knew Kailah was planning to return the favor and throw hers in the direction of the former Champ - but allies Zach and Tony seemed less likely to stray. And after Zach cast his vote Nelson’s way, it was just a matter of seconds before Tony would reveal that he too had the Michael to his Scottie’s back, giving the viewers the anticlimactic Devin v Nelson battle exactly no one cared about. Only that didn’t happen. Tony, referencing his kids and family and what’s best for him, did a bit of a ‘psych!’ and, while it appeared he was aiming his vote at Nelson, pulled the switcheroo and called the name of his idol, Johnny Bananas.
The rest, as they say, is history. Devin gets the perfect draw - no physical contact. Use your brain not brawn. And now we stand here with the equivalent of the number one seed in March Madness going down in the second round...this baby is wide open. I was starting to believe that we were hitting that point where it was now or never with Bananas - another week or two and he was nearly a lock for a finale in which he likely would not be beat.
Now, I stare atop the leaderboard on my odds - does Cara become a better option? Maybe, but I don’t believe this makes the strong stronger, necessarily. It jumbles the rest of the crew...suddenly everyone thinks they have a chance and, well, suddenly everyone (take it easy, Jemmye, you’re trash) might have a chance. There are 14 hungry competitors left. Leroy, on the other hand, looks shook. Tony looks pumped. Zach is proclaiming this is his time. Eliminating Bananas is a bigger victory mentally than anything else for the house - the house is rejuvenated and believing this is their year. Only time will tell...
I see Leroy and Natalie as potential downgrades. Both have lost their biggest, baddest ally this week and we will have to see if the house decides to pounce on the staggered Roylee. He’s certainly not a competition beast like his buddy, and he could be the easy target this week. Devin is certainly coming off a high, and he bumps up to 11/1, but I don't expect him to be a legitimate threat down the road. I finale is definitely in his realm of possibility, but he would likely have to go through Zach/Brad on the mens side alone to do so. To me, if Devin continued training and getting more serious about his physical strength, he could be a legit all-around player. As for now, knowing he can get this far and take out his vendetta is probably enough for him, whether he admits it or not. It's likely we see a final three consisting of Zach, Brad and whoever finds a rabbit hole to sneak through.
Cara Maria has done nothing but set herself up for success. She had a slight ally in Bananas, but she wasn't his #1 or even his #1 female. I doubt Bananas leaving is going to alter her game very much, and I still see her as the odds on favorite to win it all. If we really look at the female side, you can always find an upset here or there. But to me, Cara, Kam and Nicole are in a different class than Natalie, Kailah, Brittni and Jemmye. Any of the aforementioned three should be able to handle the mean girl crew, and if the finale consists of three women, I would bet they are the representatives.
